Tiki Bars in Brooklyn: A Complete List

From nautical hideaways to neon-lit neighborhood gems, tiki in Brooklyn blends old-school escapism with the borough’s creative, indie energy. Simultaneously, Brooklyn’s got a dynamic bar and restaurant scene, so things change fast – many of the tiki bars I visited in 2021 and 2022 are long gone. Don’t worry though: new ones have opened to fill the gaps.
Ready to sail off (in spirit, at least) for a few rum-soaked adventures in the hippest of the five boroughs? Here’s the full list of all current tiki and tropical-style bars in Brooklyn:
- Shaka Shaka Tiki — Shaka Shaka is a newcomer to the scene since I took a trip to try all of Brooklyn’s tiki bars a few years ago. This compact Prospect Heights spot that by day serves coffee and light fare but transforms after dark into a glowing, immersive tiki lounge. It’s beloved for clever tropical cocktails, bamboo decor, neon accents, and the feeling of stepping into a mini island escape.
- Sunken Harbor Club — This immersive tropical cocktail bar, tucked above Gage & Tollner in downtown Brooklyn, features ship-like wood interiors, rum-forward backbar, and theatrical lighting and sound to enhance the escape. It’s a standout for its narrative approach to cocktails and ambiance. I tried to get into Sunken Harbor Club during my own Brooklyn Tiki Crawl, but it was jam-packed and I couldn’t get a spot that night.
- Surf Bar — Surf Bar mixes (pun intended!) modern tropical vibes with a menu that includes seafood plus fun cocktails. Its long hours (open until 2am on weekends) and laid-back indoor/outdoor flow make it a reliable late-night tropical hangout. I unfortunately wasn’t able to visit during my trip, as they were unexpectedly closed.
- Zombie Hut — Located on Smith Street in Carroll Gardens, the no-frills Zombie Hut offers affordable tropical cocktails (e.g. “Spicy Cucarita”) and a relaxed backyard with string lights and casual seating. Its charm lies in the unpretentious, social energy and the freedom to bring your own food while sipping classic tiki drinks.
You can always see these different spots on my Global Tiki Tour map to plan out a few perfect nights sampling the best tiki drinks and ambiance that Brooklyn has to offer. This list was last updated in late 2025, so hopefully it’s current when you read it; if you spot a closure or a new opening, I’d love for you to share it in the comments below.

Thank you for this! I am lucky to have ended up in the core group planning a pre-pirate-themed-rave Tiki bar crawl in Brooklyn and I was able to add Surf Bar to the map. Really looking forward to Shaka Shaka and finally getting into Sunken Harbor!
