The Golden Tiki Review: The Bar That Helped Me Like Vegas

Thinking back, it turns out my interest in tiki and my affinity for Las Vegas began at around the same time… and in fact, the two are not unrelated! I visited one of Las Vegas’ iconic tiki bars – The Golden Tiki – on my first trip to Sin City, and it helped cement my love for both.

If you’re planning to visit Las Vegas and want some tiki time, head to The Golden Tiki; there are other tiki bars in Las Vegas, but The Golden Tiki is the best – in my opinion, anyway. Given that you’re here to read this Golden Tiki review, I’ll assume you’re at least a little interested in my opinion, and I’ll make the case for why I feel this way further on.

Covering the basics of visiting, design, drinks, food, and anything else I can think of, I hope this helps you decide if The Golden Tiki needs to be part of your Vegas trip plan. There are few bars like The Golden Tiki in Vegas – or indeed the world; it’s well worth your time to visit! Let me tell you why…

Basics of Visiting The Golden Tiki

Golden Tiki Review Hero

I always like to start my bar reviews (check out others here!) with a section about the essentials of visiting; if you can’t get there or the hours don’t work to visit, the rest isn’t helpful either. Here are the basics for The Golden Tiki in Las Vegas:

  • Location – The Golden Tiki is located at 3939 Spring Mountain Road; it’s off the strip and on the west side of I-15 in The Center at Spring Mountain. You actually can reach The Golden Tiki on bus 203; the closest stop on the Strip is right near The Encore. It’s obviously much easier to grab a taxi or rideshare if you want more flexibility.
  • Hours – The Golden Tiki is open 24/7 – like so much of Vegas. It doesn’t get much easier than that!
  • Food Options – In addition to a full drink menu, the food menu has plenty of options: classic apps like gyoza, crab rangoon, sweet chili chicken bites; creative salads; and wings, sliders, and a full pupu platter. You can definitely fill up and/or soak up the booze with the options available.
  • Souvenirs – The Golden Tiki sells merch, but it’s probably easier to buy it online and not have to worry about it breaking in your suitcase on the way home. Their mugs are legit, but their tees are also pretty sweet.

Okay, now let me share a bit about the times I’ve visited the Golden Tiki, and what I think about all the different aspects that come together to make a great tiki bar: ambiance, design, drink, food, and service.

My Experience(s) at The Golden Tiki

I’ve been to The Golden Tiki several times; my first visit was in 2019 on my first trip to Vegas. My husband was trying to convince me it wasn’t such a bad place, and made a short list of activities off-strip that he thought I’d enjoy – The Golden Tiki and the Neon Museum among them. With his expert guidance (honed by several years of attending conventions on a small work per diem and successfully avoiding the allure of gambling and excess), I had an amazing trip, and was definitely sold on The Golden Tiki. I have since returned (in late 2021), bringing friends with me to show them a good time too.

Golden Tiki Review - Entrance

The Golden Tiki has all the right ingredients for a great entrance, which I think is essential for a good tiki experience:

  • Non-descript location – check (it’s located in a strip mall, easily missed for takeaway restaurants and shops).
  • Elaborate doors – check (wooden detailing with portholes and idols for handles).
  • Well-designed entryway – check (a transition space with details and elements of the bar within, to allow your eyes – and brain! – to adjust).
Golden Tiki Review - Interior Design

After that, you step into a kaleidoscopic, stimulating, eclectically themed space, where every element draws attention – but the bar is the centerpiece of the show (even when there’s live music playing). I don’t think you can peg The Golden Tiki into one of the main design styles: the Beachcomber theme is strong, but you’ll also find Nautical artifacts, Island elements (like the giant clamshell fountain), and a dash of Trader items scattered throughout, too.

There’s often live music at The Golden Tiki, which I personally don’t love, but might be exactly what you’re looking for depending on your style: it brings the volume up substantially, making it hard to talk with your fellow tiki adventurers without yelling. If you’re not feeling that either, be sure to check the Happenings section on the website to plan around it.

Golden Tiki Review - Drinks

I’ve sat at the bar and a table, but I prefer the bar; it’s nice to be right in the thick of the fray, though I wish there weren’t gaming consoles set into the bar. (This is Las Vegas, after all, so I just have to get over it.) All of the drinks I’ve tried were fantastic – my notes show I’ve tried the Mai Tai, Painkiller, Zombie, and Rings of Saturn; the Saturn is my favorite tiki drink so I typically try it everywhere to enjoy different interpretations.

Golden Tiki Review - Food

On my first visit, my husband and I also had food; they have larger plates but we ordered a DIY pupu platter with Crab Rangoons, chicken bites in sweet chili sauce, Char Sui Ribs, and some other little plate of bites I can’t quite tell from my photos. All of the food was fabulous; The Golden Tiki is a great spot to soak up some of the alcohol as you continue drinking. This is Las Vegas, after all…

My only comment is on service, which can be spotty and slow depending on the night or how busy they are. I have, admittedly, always visited during prime hours (after dinner/evening), but I’ve been on both a Friday (understandable) and a Tuesday (not so much)… then again – This is Las Vegas, after all… Vegas doesn’t sleep, so it shouldn’t surprise me Tuesdays are as busy as Fridays in this town. The Golden Tiki does offer reservations (via Resy), which I strongly recommend if you can get them.

While I can’t say it’s the “best” part without sounding hyperbolic, perhaps my personal favorite part of visiting The Golden Tiki is that it is no smoking. In a city known for actively making you smell worse and breathe poorer for just existing, it’s so refreshing to be in a space that is 100% smoke-free, and doesn’t have any lingering old smoke smells.

Is The Golden Tiki Worth Visiting?

Golden Tiki Review - Final Thoughts

If you cannot tell, I think that yes, The Golden Tiki is absolutely worth visiting! Aside from making me enjoy visiting Las Vegas, it’s also a generally great tiki bar, well worth the planning it might take to get there. (Really, you just need to arrange a few Ubers and make sure you’re not too close to your credit limit.)

The Golden Tiki is well-designed, has great drinks, awesome food, and the immersive atmosphere that I consider baseline for a great time at a tiki bar. Service can be spotty, but The Golden Tiki is also really popular – put on your patient hat (it looks great with your Vegas getup, I promise), and you’ll have a great time.
